Teeth whitening is quickly becoming one of the most popular dental procedures in cosmetic dentistry as more people desire a brighter more glamorous smile. Simple, quick and non-invasive, it aims to restore the natural tooth colour or to whiten beyond the natural colour of the teeth.
There are various teeth whitening methods, including over the counter trays and in chair bleaching at your dental office. At ToothCare – We Care we offer one of the world’s leading in chair bleaching techniques, Zoom Teeth Whitening.
The complete procedure will take one hour, however a regular teeth cleaning is recommended prior to the whitening session.
During the procedure your dentist will apply a rubber shield and liquid latex to protect your gums. They will then apply the whitening gel to your teeth and use the Zoom LED lamp to activate the gel. The gel will be applied in 15 minute intervals for a total of 60 minutes. The Zoom LED lamp activates the gel and accelerates the whitening.
Teeth whitening is not permanent, it can last anywhere from a month to over a year. People who expose their teeth to foods and beverages that cause staining may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as one month. Those who avoid foods and beverages that stain may be able to wait one year or longer before another whitening treatment or touch-up is needed.
When done by a properly qualified dentist whitening is a very safe and effective practice. Some patients will experience sensitivity while they are whitening their teeth, this will usually stop within 48 hours and isn’t a sign of damage to the teeth. If your teeth become too sensitive during whitening it can usually be managed by leaving a few days between application of the whitening gel.
